Reigate Garden Design – A Luxury Contemporary Garden
A multi award-winning luxury contemporary garden in Reigate, Surrey, blending architecture, planting and sustainability into a cohesive, multi-layered outdoor space.
This garden design project in Pilgrims Way, Reigate, Surrey, sits on the south side of the North Downs and forms part of the complete reimagining of a 1970s property. Following an extensive extension and architectural transformation, the garden was redesigned to match, creating a bespoke, contemporary landscape that balances luxury with calm, immersive planting.
The brief called for a series of interconnected outdoor spaces, each with its own identity yet flowing seamlessly together. Significant level changes are dealt with effortlessly to guide movement through the garden, linking formal terraces, expansive lawns, and more intimate areas for relaxation and entertaining. A partially glazed infinity-edge swimming pool and vitality spa, alongside a Fesfoc outdoor kitchen and multiple seating areas, create a garden designed for year-round living.
Planting plays a critical role in grounding the architecture. Generous perennial borders, specimen trees, and a developing woodland area soften the built form, while a greenhouse and productive kitchen garden introduce a more sustainable, hands-on element to the space. Planting is designed for long seasonal interest, resilience, and biodiversity, with drought-tolerant, Mediterranean-inspired species used in the sunniest areas.
At the front of the house, a new arrival sequence establishes immediate presence. Bespoke oak gates, Purbeck stone walls, and clipped yew hedging frame the property, while floating Portland limestone steps lead to the entrance. Throughout the garden, a carefully considered palette of natural materials, Portland limestone, clay pavers, corten steel, and Purbeck Limestone walling, provides durability and longevity.
Sustainability informed key decisions. Soil was improved and reused on site where possible, planting areas were expanded to reduce hard surfacing, and species were selected for low water demand and long-term performance. A large living wall introduces vertical greening, improving biodiversity and microclimate while softening architectural boundaries.
The design also incorporates sculptural elements, water features, and carefully integrated lighting, ensuring the garden can be experienced both day and night. Despite the complexity of the build, including the integration of additional land during the project, the final garden feels cohesive, balanced, and complete.
The result is a refined and confident landscape, a garden that enhances the architecture, supports modern living, and will continue to mature beautifully over time.
