Chelsea Flower Show | 2018 Entry

A WLP First

Overview

Held every May by the Royal Horticultural Society, we’re proud to say Nic has been involved for a number of years, with 2018 marking his third consecutive appearance collaborating with sculptor David Harber.

For the first time, David Harber and real estate provider Savills sponsored a show garden for the 2018 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Designed by our Nic, it’s an unfolding drama of humankind’s lifelong interaction with the environment. This is garden theatre, designed to show how bespoke sculpture and painting can tell a reflective story. Constructed by Nik Edser of Langdale Landscapes, this is the third time the trio have worked together at Chelsea. After winning Best Trade Stand in Show in 2016 and Director General’s Trade Stand in 2017 awards, it was the right time to tackle the ultimate challenge of creating a Chelsea show garden.

The Concept

Planting starts freeform and natural, but as humankind evolves, it becomes more controlled. Hidden at the last stage was a deliberate flaw, representing our impact on the environment.

A Pivotal View

A metaphorical wormhole through time, framing the pivotal Aeon sculpture – the vital force that maintains the planet’s equilibrium.

This exciting collaboration helped the team to push their creativity and create a thought-provoking narrative through unique, one-off pieces from David and expert planting and design from Nic Howard.
