We’re Opening Our Garden for the National Garden Scheme (NGS) in May!

This spring, we are delighted to be hosting once again. On Friday 22nd and Sunday 24th May 2026, we’ll be opening Little Orchards, Nic’s own garden and the home of the We Love Plants studio, to the public as part of the National Garden Scheme.

It’s an occasion we’re genuinely excited about, and we’d love for you to come along.

What is the National Garden Scheme?

The National Garden Scheme is a long-running charity that invites private garden owners across England and Wales to open their gates to visitors, raising money for nursing and health charities in the process. Each year, thousands of gardens take part, from sprawling country estates to intimate town plots, giving people the rare chance to step inside spaces they’d never normally see.

Little Orchards is one of those spaces. Situated in the pretty village of Outwood, Surrey, and sitting adjacent to National Trust woodland, it’s a garden that has been created, shaped, and loved over many years. The property, which actually spans two neighbouring plots, Little Orchards and The Stables next door, was first purchased by Nic in 2011 and has been evolving ever since. It’s a contemporary cottage garden designed for year-round interest, and it’s somewhere Nic pours the same care and horticultural thinking into that he brings to every client project.

Seeing it in full May bloom, with the surrounding countryside at its most vivid, is something rather special.

What to Expect on the Day

Both open days run as relaxed, drop-in occasions running from 12:00pm until 4:00pm. You can just turn up and pay on the day. Adult tickets are £6.00 and child tickets are £3.00.

Come and wander at your own pace, take in the planting, and soak up what we hope will be a thoroughly lovely afternoon.

Tea and cake will be on offer, and the whole event is dog-friendly (dogs on leads, please).

Members of the team will be on hand throughout both days, so if you’ve got questions about your own garden, whether it’s a tricky shady corner, a planting scheme you’re not quite happy with, or a bigger garden design project you’ve been thinking about, do come and have a chat. There’s no obligation and no sales pitch. We just enjoy talking about gardens.

If you’re curious about what we do and have been wondering whether a garden designer might be right for you, an open day like this is as good a starting point as any.

What if it Rains?

This is England in May, so it’s only fair to mention it. The event goes ahead rain or shine. It has run successfully in wet weather before. If the forecast is less than kind, part of the garden and studio will be set up as a covered tea room, with gazebos and sheltered seating so you can still enjoy the space and stay dry.

A bit of rain rarely dampens a good garden visit.

Come and Find Us

Little Orchards is on Prince of Wales Road in Outwood, Redhill, Surrey, RH1 5QU, just a few hundred metres north of The Dog & Duck pub.

You can find the full listing, including open dates and directions, on the NGS website.

We hope to see you there. Whether you’re a keen gardener, someone who’s just starting to think about their outdoor space, or simply looking for a nice way to spend a May afternoon, you’ll be very welcome.
